Sr Pauline Engel is a Sister of Mercy and has been teaching 3 generations of girls and young women at all 3 Mercy Colleges in Auckland McAuley, St Marys and Carmel. She also taught at the Seminary before she was appointed principal of Carmel College and later Vicar for Education in the Catholic Diocese of Auckland. For her services to education she was awarded first CBE (Commander of the British Empire) and later named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the Queens Birthday Honours. Sr Pauline talks about what influenced her in her career, her passion for educating young women to make them grow and believe in themselves, and her commitment to social justice. She explains what Education in Mercy is all about.
Pass The Mic spotlights the stories and experiences of New Zealanders from migrant and former refugee backgrounds. The first series from 2022 is a community-led collaboration in partnership with Belong Aotearoa, Sport Waitākere and Storyo, hosted by Elina Ashimbayeva. The second series from 2025 focuses on the employment experience of lived experts and was made with funding from the J R McKenzie Trust.
